You're visiting Carolina Beach, Kure Beach or Fort Fisher and it starts to rain. What to do with those cooped up kids?!? Living here on the island, we have a few ideas of things to do on rainy days.
On the Island:
The North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher is a great spot for the entire family. From sea otters to jellyfish to turtles to sharks and an albino alligator, the Aquarium will delight both young and old. Make sure to make a reservation in advance!
Its the latest, its the greatest, its the Library! Pleasure Island has a great library located in the Food Lion shopping center in Carolina Beach with storytime at 10:30am on Mondays, movement storytime at 10:30am on Tuesdays and art station Fridays at 3:00pm.
For the history lovers in your group, the Fort Fisher History Museum is a must see historic Civil War landmark.
Off the Island:
Its the latest, its the greatest it the Library (again)! The libraries throughout the Wilmington area all specialize in various activities including storytime with the famous Mr. Scooter, toddler yoga, crafts and monthly Lego challenges. Check out the calendar for all of their super fun activities.
For pretend grocery shopping, building with giant foam blocks or creating fun crafts, the Children's Museum is a great place to find yourself on a rainy day. Check their events page for various fun activities ongoing throughout the week.
The Wilmington Railroad Museum offers a fascinating history lesson as well as a train table, ample model trains and a real boxcar, caboose and locomotive to explore.
If it is still summer, Regal and Carmike Cinemas both have kids movies during the summer at 10am on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Regal is $1 for entry and Carmike is $4 and includes entry as well as a popcorn and drink.
The Cape Fear Museum has family activities for kids of all ages to enjoy. Check out their website for more details.
From story time to summer art camp and more, the Cameron Art Museum is a great place for the entire family. With a cafe on site, there's no reason to leave!
Inflatables galore will keep the little ones busy for hours at Bounce -- there's even a Toddler Zone for the littlest ones to play.
